Cortez Pearls
The Cortez pearl is regarded as one of the rarest saltwater cultured pearls in the world. There is only one producing pearls farm in the world, situated in the north western part of Mexico. The culture is limited to an annual harvest of less than 4000 spherical pearls of varying quality of which only the higher qualities are presented to the international market. All pearls and Mabe are 100% sustainable and the farm in respecting all social and corporate responsibilities.

The Cortez pearl originates from the rainbow lipped pearl oyster, Pteria sterna, an oyster which physiognomy makes it difficult to graft. Nonetheless three biologists have proven successful in their struggles whereby we now can present this extraordinary pearl.
The characteristics of this pearl are foremost the exceedingly intense lustre and the distinctive colours as the name indicates covers the colour range of the rainbow. The body colour ranges from light to darker grey followed by one or more overtones ranging from pistachio, green, blue, lavender, pink or golden, just to mention a few. Some colours resembles those of the Tahiti pearl, the iridescence is, however even more pronounced in the Cortez pearl with the subtle, multiple overtones.

The rainbow lipped pearl oyster is slightly smaller than its black lipped cousin whereby the sizes in general range from 8-12mm.
